Section AGEING AND SOCIETY

German Sociological Association

About us

The Section Ageing and Society is a forum for debate on questions of the relationship between ageing and societal development, the social framework of ageing and the implications for sociological theories and approaches to research vice and versa.

The working group "Ageing and Society" was founded during the Sociology Congress in Freiburg in 1998. The Council of the DGS had previously approved the application to set up the group. After two years successful work and following an application made by us in September 2000, the section "Ageing and Society" evolved from the former working group.

Our activities include conferences and meetings, information and networking on activities in the relevant thematic areas. This is also the objective of the >>  series of books Alter(n) und Gesellschaft im VS Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften, published by Gertrud Backes and Wolfgang Clemens.
